John Moore, founder and owner of Baltimore Valley Garden Centre, started out as a fourth generation tobacco farmer. In 1957 John’s father moved from the famous tobacco region of South Western Ontario to purchase and run his own farm in Baltimore. In the 50’s through the mid 80’s the Northumberland County region was home to many World Class tobacco farms. John grew up loving the farm and followed the footsteps of his family. In the late 80’s as the collapse of the tobacco industry hit North America, John’s father made the difficult decision to sell the farm. This precipitated the birth of Baltimore Valley Garden Centre.
John knew he wanted to remain in Baltimore, so he began farming organic vegetables and selling them at a roadside stand. In 1990 John purchased the once Val’s Live Bait location at 5599 County Road 45 situated alongside the Baltimore Creek and named his new location Baltimore Valley Produce and Garden Centre.
Baltimore Valley Garden Centre is now in its 29th year of business and has evolved into a destination garden centre in our region. This thanks to our many dedicated and experienced employees, and to you our community of customers and friends that have visited and supported us through the years.
From everyone at Baltimore Valley, thank you for growing with us.
